What Links All These Issues Together?
Early in life, we learn to make sense of the world. We use what we learned, often unconsciously, to help navigate our world today. Those early strategies we use are adaptive, because they help us cope with the world. As we get older, we reuse those old, adaptive strategies, in similar situations. Sometimes they work and remain adaptive. Sometimes, they don't work and become maladaptive. All of us tend to keep trying old solutions over and over again, even when they don't work, because we know deep down that they once worked. Maladaptive strategies produce the clinical symptoms of a great many mental health diagnoses.

Reaching me by phone is difficult, because I am often working with clients during normal business hours, or working on my boat when I'm not in my office and don't have the phone handy.
