Attachment Repair

There are 3 major attachment styles and one less common style. Here's why each style can benefit from therapy:

  • Secure Attachment: Stan Tatkin refers to this group as "Anchors." Anchors had their needs met as infants in ways that support secure, trusting relationships as adults. Anchors sometimes come to therapy to resolve impasses in relationships.

  • Anxious Attachment: Stan Tatkin refers to this group as "Waves." Waves tend to form relationships with the next group (Islands). Waves often come to therapy to work on finding deeper intimacy with their Island partners and to learn how to communicate their needs without overwhelming their partners.

  • Avoidant Attachment: Stan Tatkin refers to this group as "Islands." Islands tend to come to therapy to find ways of being in relationships without being overwhelmed or for being in relationship while maintaining autonomy.

  • Disorganized Attachment: The least common. People with this attachment style share characteristics of both Waves and Islands and come to therapy for the same reasons that Waves and Islands do.

Everyone has an attachment style. Everyone needs help, from time to time, with navigating relationships. Attachment work is not limited to just couples. I work with those in non-traditional relationships and facilitate parent-child reconciliation. I also work with those who have relationship challenges at work or in other settings.

Attachment work is for everyone:

Cisgender, heterosexual people and every flavor of LGBTQIA people.

Reaching me by phone is difficult, because I am often working with clients during normal business hours, or working on my boat when I'm not in my office and don't have the phone handy.
