Trauma is a common reason to come to therapy.

The good news is that we can heal from it.

There are 2 main approaches to Trauma Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Produces measurable relief in 8-16 sessions. Some studies find that the benefits begin to wane shortly after therapy ends.

  • Requires that you apply a cognitive intervention.

  • Is an excellent first aid and can be useful to prepare for deeper work.

Limbic Therapy

  • Most other trauma therapies work with the limbic brain, either through Somatic (body-based) practices, or Memory Reconsolidation, which works with procedural memory and not historic memory. Procedural memory is often called "muscle memory."

  • Sometimes produces slower gains, but with more long lasting results.

Reaching me by phone is difficult, because I am often working with clients during normal business hours, or working on my boat when I'm not in my office and don't have the phone handy.
